About the House The Unverferth House serves as a temporary residence for The Ohio State University Medical Center patients and
families who live outside Franklin County. The House provides a safe and comfortable environment to families and
offers them a chance to share thoughts and emotions with others who may be experiencing a similar situation. The
House also serves as convenient housing for patients just after discharge, when frequent visits back to University
Medical Center are required.
Priority is given to families of patients receiving a heart transplant at University Medical Center, but the House
welcomes families of other patients as space allows. All guests must be referred to the Unverferth House by a
University Medical Center social worker. Guests must live outside of Franklin County to stay at the House.
The Unverferth House has nine fully-furnished apartments. One apartment serves as a shared office/community room.
Accomodations include one and two bedroom units. Each bedroom has two twin beds and the living rooms each include
a sofa bed. All apartments have a private bath,a fully equipped kitchen, a living room/dining room area, an iron
and ironing board, television, linens and towels, and a private telephone with an answering machine. A share
laundry room is located on the lower level of the house.
Families provide their own food, paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies. Guests are responsible for
cleaning their own apartments and apartments must be cleaned at check out for the next guests.
